WA Women's Hall of Fame talk and exhibition featuring Amanda Healy

News Update 29 June 2022

South Perth resident and 2022 WA Women’s Hall of Fame inductee Amanda Healy will share her journey from male dominated mining to the world of high-end Aboriginal fashion design as part of the City's NAIDOC Week celebrations.

On Wednesday 6 July, South Perth Library will host Amanda's presentation, along with a WA Women's Hall of Fame exhibition from 4-22 July.

About Amanda Healy

Amanda is from the Wonnarua Nation, NSW, and as with many First Nations peoples’, she has broad connections across the country. Amanda has more than 35 years’ experience in the mining industry - in Australia and internationally - has founded two Indigenous engineering companies and developed Kirrikin to support Aboriginal artists.

Amanda has recently returned from Afterpay Australian Fashion Week where she launched the new Kirrikin collection named Ripples. Amanda began Kirrikin in 2014 because she was frustrated at the lack of authentic Aboriginal fashion products. She fell in love with the art work and was inspired to make them into beautiful fashion products.

Her talk is part of the City's Words with Wine series, so you can enjoy a glass of wine at this 18+ event from 6.30-8pm. Doors open at 6.15pm and bookings are essential via Eventbrite.

About the exhibition

This inspiring exhibition of photographic portraits will introduce you to the 2022 WA Women’s Hall of Fame Inductees, including Amanda Healy.

The purpose of the WA Women's Hall of Fame is to acknowledge and celebrate the significant contributions and achievements, that women have made to Western Australia, and how they have helped to build this great State. The WA Women’s Hall of Fame is a record of the incredible diversity of the lives of women around our State. It celebrates the social; economic, historical, scientific, cultural, and political achievements of women, reflecting on how far we have come, and how far we still must go to realise gender equality.

The WA Women’s Hall of Fame Exhibition will be on display in the South Perth Library from Monday 4 July until Friday 22nd of July.
