City calls on volunteers to celebrate National Tree Day 2024
Join us for a day of community spirit and environmental action as we celebrate National Tree Day on Sunday, 28 July at Elderfield Wetlands in Salter Point. The City of South Perth is calling on volunteers of all ages to get their hands dirty and help plant over 500 trees, 2,000 shrubs, and 10,000 sedges.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that the City and community volunteers will band together to restore the area adjacent to the Canning River foreshore, enhancing the habitat for local wildlife.
City of South Perth Mayor Greg Milner emphasised the importance of National Tree Day, the City’s largest tree planting event, as a wonderful opportunity for people to come together, do their bit for the environment, and join in some outdoor fun.
“I invite everyone to join us at Elderfield Wetlands for National Tree Day on Sunday, 28 July. This event is a great way to connect with nature, contribute to the community, and ensure a greener future for generations to come," he said.
"Let's work together to create a thriving habitat for wildlife and a beautiful green space for everyone to enjoy.”
The day will also offer a chance to replace grass areas with water-efficient plants like sedges and rushes, helping our city become more sustainable.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome to participate. Please bring a hat, water bottle, closed-in shoes, and dress appropriately for the weather conditions. A free sausage sizzle and light refreshments will be provided afterward.
You can register to volunteer at https://treeday.planetark.org/site/10029283.
This community event is supported by Planet Ark and Toyota. National Tree Day is an annual event inviting communities across Australia an opportunity to engage in environmental activities.
