Off the books with City of South Perth’s library fine amnesty

The City of South Perth is introducing the novel idea of a library fine amnesty, in exchange for a donation to our Foodbank Food Drive.  

From 1 August to 30 August, book lovers will be able to bask in the warm glow of library love and drop off overdue books without fear of fines or judgement. All we ask is a donation to our food drive to wipe your slate clean.  

Whether your library item is a few days late or you’ve been hanging onto a favourite volume for years, returned items will be fine-free during this period, provided they come with a donation. Outstanding charges on your library account will also be waived.  

Items should be dropped at the front desk, where borrowers will need to present their library card in order to have their fines written off.  

From canned soups and vegetables to bags of rice or pasta, we are happy to accept all non-perishable pantry items that are in date. 

Items in high-demand include:  

• Canned meals 
• Canned fruit and vegetables 
• Long-life milk 
• Pasta sauces, spreads, and jams 
• Cereal and oats 
• Meal bases  

Donations are accepted at both South Perth and Manning Library. All donations will be collected and distributed directly through our Foodbank partnership.
