Overflow car park fundraising opportunity on New Year's Eve and Australia Day
The City is seeking a local community group, sporting club, school or other group to manage a temporary overflow car park area at Sir James Mitchell Park on New Year's Eve (31 December 2025) and Australia Day (26 January 2026).
Any group that volunteers to manage the car park is permitted to collect gold coin donations ($1–$2) from each vehicle entering the space. As the space can accommodate approximately 400–500 vehicles during the event period, previous groups have been able to collect approximately $800–$1,000 per night.
What's required:
- Group/s to provide about 10–12 volunteers per night and be available to manage the car park between 3pm and 9pm.
- Group/s are required to have a system in place to collect the donations electronically and via cash. For example, previous groups have used a portable electronic donation collection device, such as ‘Square Online’, mobile phone software etc in addition to accepting coin donations.
- Group/s are also required to supply their volunteers with torches, high vis vests and water.
