Giving new life to pre-loved items: community comes together for Charity Drop-Off Day
On Sunday 26 May we hosted a successful Charity Drop-Off Day at Bill Grayden Reserve carpark in Como.
Residents and community members came together to donate a variety of household items, including furniture, clothing, and electronics, to local charities.
The event saw a tremendous turnout of approximately 500 cars throughout the day, with attendees eager to contribute to Starting Over Support (SOS), Good Sammy’s, Vinnies, and Paraquad Industries.
The drive-in-and-drop-off format allowed for a smooth and efficient donation process, with volunteers from the Como and Mill Point Rotary Clubs assisting in unloading items directly from vehicles.
Even Mayor Milner attended, personally donating items and expressing his admiration for the community's generosity and the event's organisation.
By the end of the day, all participating charities left with fully loaded trucks, filled with high-quality donations.
Feedback from both donors and charity representatives was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the community’s enthusiasm and support for future events.
This initiative not only provided valuable resources to those in need but also helped reduce landfill waste, demonstrating the City of South Perth's commitment to sustainability and community spirit.
Have pre-loved clothes you'd like to donate? Drop them off at our Recycling Centre, open Wednesday to Sunday 8am-2pm (Last vehicle acceptance 1:45pm on weekends).
