Have your say in the local government elections

News Update 8 September 2023
2023 Elections

It’s time to have your say on who represents your views on Council.

Your vote can make a difference. Elected Members play a critical role in our City’s future, making decisions on the type of services and infrastructure provided to the community. They also play an important leadership role working with the community and City administration to create and implement the community’s vision and strategic direction.

This year, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries has introduced optional preferential voting, the same way State and Federal Elections are held. This new voting system will strengthen the transparency, accountability, and efficiency of local governments, enabling stronger democracy while ensuring a better response to the needs of ratepayers and residents.

The election process will remain the same, the key difference being how you complete your vote on your ballot paper. Instead of ticking a box or boxes, you will be required to number a box or boxes.

There are three steps in the voting process:
  1. An election voting package will be posted to all City of South Perth electors approximately three weeks before election day
  2. Electors must complete and return the ballot to the City by 6pm on election day, Saturday 21 October 2023
  3. The count starts at 6pm, Saturday 21 October and the results will be available the following week.
