Do you know an outstanding volunteer?

Media Release 4 August 2020

The City is proud to present the fourteenth annual Volunteer of the Year Awards recognising and celebrating outstanding individuals within our community.

If you know someone who lives, volunteers or makes a significant contribution within the City please nominate them. It could be someone who takes care of disadvantaged people in our local community, fundraises for charity or has made a difference during COVID lockdown.

City of South Perth Mayor Greg Milner said these awards recognise those who have given their time, energy, skills and resources to make other people’s lives better.

“Volunteering is a big part of the Australian ethos, we’ve always been a nation of people willing to roll up our sleeves, pitch in and have a go for the common good.

“The City relies on the valuable support of more than 150 volunteers each year for a range of services and activities including our libraries, seniors centres, the Old Mill and helping out at City events,” Mayor Milner said.

There are three award categories:

  • Junior Volunteer – 18 years and under
  • Youth Volunteer – 18 to 25 years
  • Volunteer of the Year – over 25 years

Last year, Vida Corbett was named 2019 Volunteer of the Year, Cameron Keoh – 2019 Youth Volunteer of the Year and Andrea Burnett – 2019 Junior Volunteer of the Year.

Nominations are now open and close 4pm, 30 September 2020. Nominations can be completed online or by contacting the City’s Community Development Officer.

All nominees will be invited to the Volunteer of the Year Awards ceremony on Friday 5 December.
