A Local Community Response and Relief Package has been released to help residents, businesses and community groups impacted by the global Coronavirus pandemic.

City of South Perth Mayor Greg Milner announced the package, which was unanimously endorsed by Council at last night’s Special Council Meeting and will be in place until 30 June 2020, at this stage.

Mayor Milner said this comprehensive and targeted package follows on from a range of initiatives already implemented by the City to assist residents, businesses and community groups.  The package has a particular focus on the needs of the most vulnerable and at-risk members of our community.

The raft of support measures includes:

  • A Financial Hardship Assistance policy
  • Suspension of debt collection activities
  • Granting of a repayment holiday for all community group self-supporting loans
  • One hour free parking in popular City carparks – with a valid ticket (to be rolled out over the next few weeks)
  • Establishing a “Buy Local, Shop Local” campaign to support local business
  • Additional Recycling Centre vouchers - 1 x green, 1 x general waste on application until 30 June 2020
  • City support to reopen Collier Park Golf from tomorrow (online bookings only)
  • Re-prioritising capital works programs to help stimulate and drive recovery
  • A commitment to an average rate movement of zero percent in the 2020/21 budget
  • A commitment to a zero percent movement on the Waste Collection Levy and the City’s fees and charges schedule in the 2020/21 budget

“While COVID-19 is a health crisis, we understand the social and economic impacts could last for some time beyond the pandemic itself. Additional measures required for the longer term will be discussed as part of the budget process.

“The City is committed to providing targeted and balanced support to meet local community needs. Last night’s package is intended to complement support from Federal and State Government, while remaining fiscally responsible, so we can continue to deliver essential community services for the long term,” Mayor Milner said.
