Libraries helping start conversations for 16 Days in WA

City of South Perth Libraries are supporting the 16 Days in WA to Stop Violence Against Women initiative, having stocked up on books that explore violence against women in order to stimulate positive conversations. 

Beginning today – on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – and running until 10 December 2019, 16 Days in WA is inspired by UN Women’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an international campaign to end violence against women and girls across the world. Currently, more than 3,700 organisations from over 160 countries participate in the global campaign annually.

South Perth Libraries encourage education and thoughtful exchange of ideas, and through a specially chosen list of books – including recent big name blockbusters – aim to raise awareness and education through reading.

Below is a list of books recommended by the State Library of Western Australia that examine the issue of violence against women for book clubs and library members:
