Have your say on the Clontarf Waterford Salter Point Foreshore Draft Masterplan

Media Release 1 August 2018
CWSP

The Draft Masterplan for the Clontarf Waterford Salter Point (CWSP) Foreshore is out for public comment, with all community members and stakeholders invited to provide feedback.

The foreshore areas from Clontarf through to Waterford and Salter Point are known as the Canning River wetlands. This foreshore consists of a network of natural reserves, estuarine conservation wetlands, a Bush Forever site and public open space. These are the most extensive estuarine wetlands in the lower reaches of the Swan and Canning Rivers, occupying approximately 34 hectares of Canning River foreshore land, providing habitat area for many wildlife species.

The area is coming under pressure due to climate change, foreshore erosion, urban infill, and increased recreational use. The Draft Masterplan provides a strategic framework to assist the City in managing these pressures into the future. It provides a consolidated management strategy recognising the ecological, cultural and recreational values of this precious regional reserve. It builds on the best features of the foreshore, address areas for improvement and capture the values and aspirations of the community.

The Draft Masterplan was developed following months of research and community and stakeholder engagement including surveys, community information sessions and meetings.

The Draft Masterplan addresses current and future foreshore management issues; allows for unique landscaping design that embraces the changing environment; supports environmental values to enhance native flora and fauna species; provides recommendations for the upgrade of existing facilities and infrastructure; establishes key areas for sport activities, passive recreation and nature spaces; focuses on connectivity and accessibility along the entire CWSP Foreshore area; recognises aboriginal cultural values and heritage significance of the area.
