Australia Day on South Perth foreshore
The Australia Day celebrations begin early with the City's Morning Ceremony; the day commences with the Flag Raising Ceremony where the flag is blessed and raised by the Australian Defence Forces.
The official ceremony then commences after 8am where guests are greeted with a Welcome to Country before being inducted as new Australian citizens. Members of the public are invited to join in and reaffirm their citizenship pledge together with the City's newest Australians.
The proceedings also include the presentation of the Australia Day WA Community Citizen of the Year Awards, which acknowledges those individuals and organisations that have made a notable contribution throughout the year, and/or to those who have given outstanding service over a number of years. The Ted Maslen Award is also presented to the student resident who achieves the highest performance marks of all year 12 students within the City of South Perth.
After the formalities of the Morning Ceremony, stick around to enjoy the Great Aussie Breakfast hosted by the Rotary Club of Como. For the small cost of $5, enjoy a barbecue breakfast with your choice of fruit, plus a tea, coffee or juice; all proceeds go back into supporting local community initiatives.
Presented by the City of South Perth and Supported by Lotterywest, the Australia Day Celebration Zone is the place to be with an extensive program of events for the whole family.
Spanning along the South Perth foreshore, the event features multiple areas with free activities suitable for toddlers to adults, a range of food vendors and ample shade and picnic areas for families to enjoy. The event provides everyone with the opportunity to come together and enjoy Australia Day in a safe, alcohol and smoke free environment.
