Development Application 47 Clydesdale Street, Como

Media Response 29 June 2017
Canning Bridge

Journalist’s background: I’m just touching base after I had a few residents get in touch with me with concerns in regards to the proposed development at 47 Clydesdale Street, Como.

• Yarran Property Group’s Development Application lists the building as being 4-storeys but on the council’s website it is listed as 5-storeys, which one is correct and why is there a discrepancy?

• Is the council concerned the development may not be consistent with the Canning Bridge Activity Centre plan in terms of the number of storeys?

• Is the development expected to go to the Metro Central Joint Development Assessment Panel and if so, when?

• Does the council have any concerns about the number of dwellings being proposed or any other part of the proposal?

• How many people have been consulted about the proposal?

• When will consultation period end?

Please attribute the following quotes to City of South Perth CEO Geoff Glass.

Yarran Property Group’s Development Application lists the building as being 4-storeys but on the council’s website it is listed as 5-storeys, which one is correct and why is there a discrepancy?

The wording of the applicant’s proposal relates to the technical interpretation of the Canning Bridge Activity Centre Plan that does not consider a ‘mezzanine’ as a storey. However, as the development appears in a physical sense as a 5 level building, the City decided to describe it this way.

Is the council concerned the development may not be consistent with the Canning Bridge Activity Centre plan in terms of the number of storeys?

The application is still being assessed by City officers against the provisions of the Canning Bridge Activity Centre Plan.

Is the development expected to go to the Metro Central Joint Development Assessment Panel and if so, when?

The development is expected to be presented to the Metro Central Joint Development Assessment Panel for determination in mid-September 2017.

Does the council have any concerns about the number of dwellings being proposed or any other part of the proposal?

The application is still being assessed by City officers against the provisions of the Canning Bridge Activity Centre Plan.

How many people have been consulted about the proposal?

In accordance with Policy P301 “Community Engagement in Planning Proposals”, approximately 75 residents were consulted and a sign was placed on the property listing the details of the proposal, likely to take place should it be approved. This placement of the sign is visible to the public.

When will consultation period end?

The consultation period started 16 June and ends 14 July 2017
