Summer at South Perth Library

News Update 22 November 2016

As the weather starts to heat up, the library is a great place to head for a wide range of cool activities and events for children of all ages.

Summer gets off to a flying start at the Community Hall on 7 December with South Perth Library's Storytime Christmas Party. From 10.30am, pre-school aged children are invited to hear stories with the amazing Glenn Swift and there may even be a visit by a very special guest (Ho! Ho! Ho!). This is a free event but bookings are essential for catering purposes.

Throughout January the library participates in the Summer Reading Club, a free online and in-library holiday program run in partnership with State Library of Queensland, the Australian Library and Information Association, and the Australian Public Library Alliance.

Aimed at keeping young readers inspired throughout the holidays, the program includes a blog with Australian Children’s Laureate Leigh Hobbs and popular children’s author Deborah Abela. Children can also take part in Encyclopaedia Britannica’s sponsored quiz, craft a 'What Happens Next' story ending to Mick Elliot’s story starter, share book raves and artwork and lots more.

The Summer Reading Club gives participants the opportunity to connect with readers across the country. Last year over 48,000 Australian children registered for the Summer Reading Club and collectively read more than 333,000 books.
