South Perth Stories - a local history project

News Update 7 November 2016

The City of South Perth commenced its oral history program in 1988 with the aim of capturing and preserving the history of our dynamic City through the stories and experiences of residents, past and present. Over the last two years, over 150 oral history stories have been sorted, catalogued and digitised and the collection is now available online at South Perth Stories

Stories include memories of a changing South Perth, the river and environment, childhood, local businesses, community, schooling, the depression years, the impact of WWII, Chinese market gardens, trams, ferries, development of our suburbs, and many more.

The collection, which provides a rich way to preserve and learn about our history, can also be borrowed from the City’s Libraries.

If you or anyone you know has stories about our suburbs to share, please contact the City to get involved in this ongoing project.
