Canning Highway ShapeOurPlace - Phase Two

Media Release 23 July 2015
Canning Highway
The City of South Perth’s Draft Local Housing Strategy identified that there are challenges for the City between managing high density development along Canning Highway and the adjacent low density residential areas.

As a result, the City of South Perth is now reviewing existing and future building appearance along Canning Highway and the adjacent low density suburbs.

Many properties close to Canning Highway have the potential to redevelop to higher densities. The City has recognised the need to review the transition from higher density into the low density suburbs.

The City undertook extensive stakeholder and community consultation, involving a Facebook conversation using #ShapeOurPlace, a community workshop and email submissions that ran between March and April 2015.

The first phase of consultation ended on Saturday 28 March 2015 with a successful community workshop held at the South Perth Community Hall. Approximately 100 residents attended the workshop and contributed their ideas and feedback for the project. This information has since been analysed and incorporated into the second phase of the project, which is the modelling of desirable future built form in the study area.

The City is seeking feedback on the second phase of the study – the draft Maximum Height Plan and Typical Cross Sections, prepared based on the feedback from the community and key Government stakeholders in phase one.
