Local Government Extraordinary Election - Close of Enrolments

You may be eligible to be enrolled to vote in the Local Government Extraordinary Election on 3 March 2023 if you live in or are an owner or occupier of rateable property in the Como Ward of the City of South Perth.

The Roll closes 5pm, Thursday 12 January 2023.

Nominations open 8.00 am 18 January 2023 and close 4.00pm 25 January 2023.

Enrolment Forms

You can enrol or update your details online, or download an enrolment form, via the Western Australia Electoral Commission website. Forms are also available from the Australian Electoral Commission.

Enrolments and updates must be completed and received by 5pm, Thursday 12 January 2023. 

Non-Resident Owners and Occupiers Only

Enrolment forms can be obtained from the City of South Perth and must be lodged with the Chief Executive Officer by 5pm, Thursday 12 January 2023. 

Removal of address from the roll

The state electoral roll and owner and occupier roll are publicly available for inspection. If you are of the opinion that the publication of your address would place your safety, or the safety of your family, at risk you can apply to have your address removed from the roll.

If you are enrolled on the state electoral roll, you can make a claim under s51B of the Electoral Act 1907. Fill out the Application for Removal of Address from State Electoral Roll form and send it to:

2023 Elections

A series of information sessions will be be held to guide prospective candidates in the 2023 Local Government Elections.

City of South Perth information session

The City will be holding a candidate information session to inform prospective candidates about the roles and responsibilities of local government, Councillors and the Council.

6pm, Thursday 24 August 2023

Prior to nominating as a candidate you will need to complete an induction course to assist your understanding of what your obligations and commitments will be if you are elected.

 

Other information sessions

Hosted by the WA Local Government Association (WALGA) - together with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLSGC) - the sessions will give candidates an opportunity to learn more about the election process and the roles and responsibilities of being a Councillor.

The following sessions are free, however registration is essential:

Youth

Tuesday 1 August, 6-8pm

Young people are among the most under-represented groups in local government and the Youth Affairs Council of WA is hoping to change that with a series of forums to encourage young people to consider nominating as a Councillor at the October elections.

Local Government Minister David Michael will be speaking at the Herb Graham Recreation Centre in Mirrabooka. This event will also be live streamed. Register here.

Thursday 10 August, time to be confirmed

A second forum will be held at the Grove Library at 1, Leak Street, Peppermint Grove. Register here.

Wednesday 16 August, 6-8pm (venue to be confirmed)

People with disability

Monday 7 August, 5-7pm at 246 Vincent Street, Leederville

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries will be holding a forum for people living with a disability, who are interested in becoming a Local Government councillor.

Local Government Minister David Michael and panel of current and former councillors with lived experience of disability will discuss topics such as:

  • local government election process
  • campaign tips and potential pitfalls
  • support, resources, workplace adjustments and accessibility.

The session will be held at the DLGSC office in Leederville and includes time for attendees to ask the panel questions or address specific feedback. 

The event will also be live streamed from 5pm.

Election Candidate Information - Briefing Webinar

Monday 14 August, 6pm - online

The WA Local Government Association will host a free online Webinar for people interested in nominating to be a Councillor.

People from all walks of life serve on their local Council and this informative and interactive chat aims to provide an insight into the election process and what to expect in the role as a Councillor.
