First Australians

The Noongar/Bibbulmun people are the Traditional Owners of the South West of Western Australia. The City of South Perth is located on Whadjak Noongar Country and we acknowledge the continuing connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have to this land.

For a number of years, the City has been working with local Aboriginal people and the community to build relationships, trust and understanding on our journey of reconciliation.

NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate the rich history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The City celebrates NAIDOC Week in July each year, by partnering with community organisations and local Noongar community members to host a series of events. Visit the Events section of the website to find out more.

Have your say on the Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan

Media Release 15 June 2020
First Nations

The City is working on the Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and we would like to know your thoughts.

The Innovate RAP is the second stage of our reconciliation journey and has been developed following the successful implementation of our Aboriginal Engagement Strategy.

There are four stages to our reconciliation journey; Reflect, Innovate, Stretch and Elevate.

The Innovate RAP will provide a framework to help us achieve our vision for, and commitment to reconciliation. It will act as a guide for recognising and celebrating Aboriginal culture and heritage within the City.

The actions are meaningful yet aspirational to help us trial new approaches for developing and strengthening relationships, showing respect and improving opportunities for Aboriginal people.

If you would like to have your say on the draft Innovate RAP, please visit Your Say South Perth before 4pm, Monday 6 July 2020.

We are also holding two drop-in sessions if you would like to discuss the draft plan with City staff.

  • Wednesday 24 June from 2.30 and 4.30pm, cnr Angelo and Anstey Street, South Perth
  • Saturday 27 June from 11am and 1pm, outside Coles, Waterford Plaza
