Call for artists to join our Live Art Studios

News Update 21 May 2026

The City of South Perth is now inviting expressions of interest (EOI) from artists and creatives to create a Live Art Studio as part of Evolve 2026: Arts, Events and Culture Winter Program.

Running from 18 July to 22 August 2026, Evolve is an annual cultural program whereby professional artists utilise public spaces within our local libraries to bring creativity and culture to the community.

Our Live Art Studios offer the community a unique opportunity to meet working artists and learn more about the diversity of artistic practice, as artists undertake their studio practice and create an artwork live during an 11-day residency.

Last year, visitors were captivated by live creative residencies from cultural artist Lea Taylor, who created a traditional booka (kangaroo skin cloak) at South Perth Library, and multidisciplinary artist Chamonix Higginson, who transformed Manning Library with a large-scale textile installation. These immersive experiences highlighted the diversity, creativity and cultural storytelling at the heart of the Evolve program.

Your submission will need to address the qualitative criteria for the program, including:

  • the proposed artwork has a connection, style or theme related to the local area
  • the artwork can remain on display at the library during the Evolve program period
  • the proposed artwork will be completed live over an 11-day period.

Applicants must also:

  • hold public liability insurance
  • supply all materials and equipment required to complete the work
  • be present and working on the artwork during mutually agreed dates and hours.

Please refer to the EOI Information Pack for full details and submission requirements.

Expressions of interest close at 4pm, Monday 15 June 2026
