Library improvements now underway

News Update 9 January 2026

You may have noticed a few changes at the South Perth Library recently, with refurbishment works in progress to create a convenient, more welcoming space for everyone.

What’s new so far

  • Smart new technology: We’ve added self-service kiosks and returns shelf – the first of their kind in WA. Our kiosks even speak your language. Simply scan your library card, select your preferred language and it will be saved for next time.
  • Accessibility upgrade: Wider entry gates make it easier for everyone to get around the library.
  • Fresh new look: Updated carpeting is brightening the space.
  • Comfy spots to relax: New seating has been added near the fish tank and entryway.

Still to come

  • A new and improved front desk to better support visitors.

  • Cable works around the self-service kiosks.
