Let it glow: City launches Christmas Lights Competition
Christmas is fast approaching, and the City of South Perth is getting into the festive spirit with its first-ever Christmas Lights Competition.
From 1 November, residents and local businesses are invited to register their dazzling displays of Christmas lights and decorations for a chance to win cash prizes.
Along with the community glory of being crowned a winner, there is $3,000 up for grabs for the best residential display and $1,000 for the top commercial entry.
Mayor Greg Milner said the competition was a wonderful way to bring the community together during the festive season.
“Christmas is a time of connection and celebration and what better way to mark the season than by lighting up neighbourhoods and spreading festive cheer across the City,” he said.
“Whether you’re a seasoned decorator or just getting started, I encourage everyone to get involved in this exciting addition to our Christmas in the City lineup,” he added.
Mr Milner said he was looking forward to judging the community’s creative displays alongside the City’s newly appointed CEO Liz Ledger from 8-12 December.
Displays will be judged on creativity, use of colour, overall theme and community engagement, with winners announced 15 December and prizes presented on Christmas Eve.
Mr Milner said the City was immensely grateful to the generous support of sponsors Nextdoor, Olsen Butchers, The Karalee, IGA on Preston, Soco Real Estate and Pagoda Resort, who had all come on board to support this initiative.
“Their contribution helps us to celebrate the season and bring festive joy to our community,” he said.

Registrations close November 30 and lights must be installed by 1 December.
The Christmas Lights Competition is part of our seasonal celebrations alongside Carols at Sunset, Christmas Markets, and lights and decorations to be displayed around the City.
