Information sessions for candidates
Residents interested in running for one of five seats available on the South Perth Council in the upcoming Local Government Elections are encouraged to attend our free information session.
The election will be held on Saturday 18 October, with the nomination period opening on Thursday 28 August 2025. Nominations are open to any eligible electors in the City. Persons who are enrolled to vote as a Nominee of a body corporate are not eligible to nominate to become a Councillor.
To help you understand the role and commitment required to serve as a Councillor, potential candidates are encouraged to participate in the following information sessions:
City of South Perth Candidate Information Session
The City will be holding a candidate information session to inform prospective candidates about the roles and responsibilities of local government Elected Members as individuals and the Council as a collective.

Hosted by the City, you will have a chance to meet City Officers and a representative from WALGA. You will be provided with information specific to the City of South Perth.
WALGA Candidate Information Webinar
6.00pm to 7.30pm, 18 August 2025 (online via Zoom)
Hosted by the WA Local Government Association (WALGA), together with the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) and the WA Electoral Commission, the session will give prospective candidates an opportunity to hear from presenters and learn more about:
- the election process
- the responsibilities of an Elected Member and local governments
- the regulatory role of LGIRS in Western Australia.
