City to celebrate new citizens and volunteers this Australia Day
On Sunday 26 January, the City of South Perth will welcome 100 people from 37 countries as they become Australian Citizens.
The Morning Ceremony will take place at Sir James Mitchell Park from 8am to 9.30am, and will feature the AUSPIRE Community Citizen of the Year Awards. Following the ceremony, The Great Aussie Breakfast, hosted by the Rotary Club of Como, will take place from 9.30am to 10.30am.
Mayor Greg Milner said the morning on the foreshore was an uplifting and meaningful way to commemorate Australia Day.
“This Australia Day, we’re coming together to celebrate what makes Australia the greatest country on Earth to live and to give thanks for the many blessings we enjoy as a nation, ” he said.
“I encourage our residents to join us in welcoming our newest citizens and celebrating some of our outstanding volunteers and community organisations who will be presented with the Community Citizen of the Year Award.”
“And what a day it is to recognise those remarkable individuals and groups who truly embody the spirit of our community.”
The Morning Ceremony is free to attend. However, the Great Aussie Breakfast at 9.30am costs $7 per person, with proceeds going towards community projects.
While the City of Perth is hosting a light show of fireworks and drones on Australia Day at Langley Park, there is no major event on the South Perth foreshore, with limited infrastructure and traffic management in place.
The City of Perth says the best viewing area for the light show is at Langley Park, where infrastructure will be in place to support the event.
