Amana Living selected as preferred new operator of Collier Park Village

Media Release 1 November 2023

The City of South Perth has chosen not-for-profit aged care service and accommodation provider Amana Living as its preferred new operator of Collier Park Village in Como.

The City will now commence negotiations to enter into an agreement with Amana Living for the transfer of ownership and operation of the Village; and finalise the transfer of land. The final decision will be voted on by Council at a future date, once contract details have been negotiated.

The decision follows the City’s evaluation process which identified Amana Living as the preferred proponent based on their reputation, alignment with the City’s priorities, their financial capacity to make substantial improvements to the amenity and accessibility of the Village, and their proven track record in completing similar transactions and redevelopments.

The City has owned and operated the Village for over 30 years, offering independent living units to people aged 55 years and over. During that time, the needs of Australians in retirement living have changed significantly with people living for longer and with more complex health needs.

To offer the right mix of accommodation and services to deliver contemporary standards of retirement living at the Village, a high level of expertise and capital investment is needed, and Amana Living can provide this.

City of South Perth Mayor, Greg Milner said the City places great importance on the long-term vision for the Village to create a lively neighbourhood and community which facilitates independent living and improved accessibility for seniors.

He said Amana Living was chosen because of their extensive experience in providing high-quality care and services to residents.

“The needs of Collier Park Village residents are at the forefront of the City’s and Council’s decision-making. Amana Living is one of WA's largest not-for-profit providers of aged care services and accommodation for older people and this is the best outcome for the residents of the Village.

“Selecting a specialist provider of retirement villages such as Amana Living as the new Village operator will improve Collier Park Village for current and future residents and ensure the long-term viability of the Village.”

Amana Living has served the Western Australian community for more than 60 years, providing aged care services and retirement living options to thousands of older people.

Amana Living CEO Stephanie Buckland said, “We are looking forward to working with the City of South Perth to undertake due diligence which includes gaining a comprehensive understanding of the community’s needs.

“Our long-term plan is to establish an integrated care community that enables older people to lead a fulfilling life as they progress through their ageing journey in the community they love.

“As a not-for-profit organisation, our purpose is to protect the interests of the people we care for and support, and this would extend to Collier Park Village residents should a transfer occur.

“While it's early days, we’re excited to embark on this journey to fully explore the possibilities of the village, unlocking its potential to meet the needs of both current and future residents.”

An extensive due diligence and negotiation phase will now commence, and a transaction will be subject to City Council and Amana Living Board approvals.
