Celebrating Aboriginal culture in local sport

News Update 13 June 2023
Manning Rippers Football Club held early NAIDOC Week celebrations with a First Nations Community Day at James Miller Oval on Saturday 10 June. The City was proud to support the event with a $4,200 contribution through its Community Development Grant.

Held alongside the club’s Indigenous round, the event brought people together to celebrate the long-standing contribution of local Aboriginal players. It recognised the Manning Rippers’ commitment to inspire and grow participation of people from all backgrounds in local sport.

“At the Manning Rippers we strive to be one community regardless of race, colour and origin.

“From our junior sides to our adult men sides to our relatively new women's team there has always been a strong Indigenous presence and we have marvelled in the skills and calm confidence demonstrated on the football field”, the club said.

The Grant is open to sporting clubs, community groups and other organisations to run projects that benefit the City of South Perth community. Applications are open year-round.
