Thumbs up for road safety on Labouchere Road

News Update 29 June 2022

A speed awareness sign has been installed along Labouchere Road in South Perth to help remind motorists of the new 40km/hr traffic speed around the busy precinct between Mill Point Road and Perth Zoo.

The new electronic sign is one of 10 installed throughout the City over the past two years to reduce speeding on our roads, as part of a $71,000 grant from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communication under its Road Safety Awareness and Enablers Fund.

Drivers receive a 'thumbs up or smiley face' for driving within the correct speed limit, while a 'sad face' is given to those travelling over the speed limit.

The signs are installed inside a sleeve in the ground so they can be relocated to allow the City to respond quickly to safety issues on other roads.

Information about road projects are updated on our News and Public Notices page, while road or traffic issues can be raised by Making a Request.
