Redmond Stairs update

News Update 22 March 2022
Parks and Reserve works Redmond Stairs Road Works

The City is currently upgrading the stairs at Redmond Reserve in Salter Point. The project has encountered some delays due to supply chain issues and labour availability. We are anticipating works will be complete by the end of May 2022.

Thank you for your patience and we look forward to sharing this exciting project with you.

Background

A new raised stairway are being constructed at Redmond Reserve in Salter Point to improve safety and access to the riverside nature space. The stairway will replace existing timber and limestone ground level stairs that are beginning to age.

The new stairs will be wider, less steep,  and raised above the vegetation, making it easier to walk through the area and enjoy views of the river and bushland. Three viewing platforms with seating will provide a place to rest and the opportunity for birdwatching. A local resident has generously provided a funding contribution towards the project.

Works will include revegetation of the bushland using local endemic trees and plants to help prevent erosion and provide a food source for wildlife including cockatoos.

Redmond Reserve forms part of a Bush Forever site, an area of protected bushland home to threatened species of plants and wildlife. It is a popular place to enjoy a peaceful walk and is much love by the Salter Point community.

The project will complete the City’s staged upgrade to the nature walk loop that runs through Redmond Reserve, which has included rehabilitation of the boardwalk and a second set of stairs at Sulman Avenue. It is part of our Clontarf-Waterford-Salter Point Masterplan, which provides a consolidated management strategy recognising the ecological, cultural and recreational values of the area.
