Possums given new home at Windsor Park

News Update 3 February 2021

A family of local South Perth possums are settling in to their new home after the City installed two nest boxes at Windsor Park. Since being discovered taking up residence in a less than ideal location in the rooftop of Heritage House, the brush-tailed possums needed somewhere new to live.

The City’s environment team arranged two possum nest boxes to be built by the Re-cyc-ology Project using recycled material and filled with a comfortable nest of bark and leaves. Installed high in a Eucalyptus tree next to Heritage House, the possum boxes have been hung using a wire and hosepipe construction to limit any damage to trees.

The City will continue to monitor local possums and evaluate the success of the nest boxes in providing a safe habitat for the native animal. Future nest boxes could be installed at other parks and reserves if the trial is successful.
