City welcomes Civic Heart announcement

News Update 4 February 2020

City of South Perth Acting CEO Colin Cameron said the City welcomes the Planning Minister’s announcement to approve the Civic Heart development.

“Civic Heart is the most significant and iconic site at the gateway to the City of South Perth.

“The City has been working with the applicant for many years and we remain committed to the creation of an iconic development,” Mr Cameron said.

The proposal for the Civic Heart site at the intersection of Labouchere and Mill Point Roads in South Perth, is for a mixed use development.  The development will include two towers of 39 and 22 storeys, including 309 residents dwellings, commercial and retails tenancies.

The City began strategically acquiring the lots that constitute the site in 1986, with the longer term objective and vision to facilitate a vibrant development on this landmark location.

The project is a vital element of the City’s Connect South project, a key priority of the South Perth Foreshore Strategy and Management Plan to create an accessible and attractive entry point to Mends Street, the Perth Zoo and greater South Perth.  Connect South will reinforce the links between the Zoo, the City and the Perth Central Business District.
