Garage Sale Trail success

The City once again participated in the Garage Sale Trail event in October 2019, which encouraged residents to put secondhand first.

Almost 3,000 City residents were involved as sellers or shoppers over the event weekend, with 70 sales and stalls registered locally and 48,000 items for sale.

The estimated weight of items reused locally was 18,886kg and the average amount earned by households participating was $293.

89 per cent of residents said they were more likely to reduce waste after participating, while 81 per cent said the event made them feel more connected to community.

Garage Sale Trail participation is just one of the ways the City raises awareness and attempts to provide education on waste and recycling for the community.
