Road Rehabilitation Works – York Street, South Perth

Public Notice 9 January 2019
Maintenance Works Road Works

In accordance with the 2018/19 Capital Works Program, the City of South Perth will be undertaking road rehabilitation works at the following location:

York Street between King Edward Street & Alexandra Street, South Perth.
C
ommencing 14 January 2019.

The works will take approximately 3 weeks to complete, weather permitting. Works will be confined to the hours of 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday, although in order to complete the works it may be necessary to carry out some activities outside of these hours, including Saturdays.

Two trees, one Cape Lilac tree (Melia azedarach) and one Coral Tree (Erythrina syksei) will be removed as part of the upgrade to the car parking bays. The City generally does not favour any tree removal however our assessment determined this was required due to trees roots conflicting with surrounding infrastructure, and identified structural deficiencies within these two specimens.  An Arboricultural Assessment supports this recommendation.

Four new Jacaranda trees (Jacaranda mimosifolia) will be planted in place of the two removed trees. Jacaranda trees were selected for their continuity with other trees in the street, their attractive appearance, and suitable size and form.

The roads will be closed at certain times to through-traffic. Local residents will be permitted to access their properties, although some delays may occur. On-street parking will also be restricted to facilitate the works.

The works may also involve the removal and replacement of kerbing. If residents have reticulation on the kerb line it will be temporarily cut, capped and relocated away from the kerb. A notice will be placed in letterboxes upon reinstatement of reticulation. The City requests that residents test their systems within a two week period of receipt of the notice and if issues present they are to notify the City as soon as possible.
