A Day on the Green at Sir James Mitchell Park

Media Response 12 November 2018

Journalist’s background: Media enquiry from the Southern Gazette newspaper about background about music festivals at Sir James Mitchell Park.

Please attribute the following quotes to City of South Perth Mayor Sue Doherty.

Was the 2015 festival featuring Sting and Paul Simon the last time A Day on the Green was held at Sir James Mitchell Park?

Yes, 2015 was the last time A Day on the Green was held at Sir James Mitchell Park.

If there have been any festivals of that magnitude since then, please confirm the basic event name/details.

There have not been any major music festivals such as A Day on the Green on Sir James Mitchell Park since 2015, however the reserve hosts large-scale events from time to time including the City’s annual family-friendly Australia Day Celebration Zone and fundraising events such as the RSCPA Million Paws Walk.

Is this a coup for the City of South Perth? What benefits are there – to the city and to the community - from a local venue hosting such an event with a big-name performer?

The City is proud that A Day on the Green has chosen to return to South Perth with one of the world’s best known and most-loved acts, Kylie Minogue. Unique events such as this one bring thousands of people to our City who might otherwise not visit. They help to showcase the beautiful Swan River Foreshore and offer local businesses fantastic exposure and the opportunity to reach many more people in our community and from greater Perth.

Additional information

The Kylie Minogue concert is being managed locally by Mellen Events who are an experienced event management company that have facilitated many concerts in venues around Western Australia, including previous concerts at City venues, such as the Sting and Paul Simon concerts held at Sir James Mitchell Park in 2015.

The City will be working closely with Mellen Events to ensure the concert is planned and coordinated in an effective manner. Mellen Events will also be liaising with Transperth to discuss public transport options available for concert attendees, including requesting additional ferry and bus services.

More information about the concert is available on Mellen Events website.
