Carnaby's Black Cockatoos roosting in Collier Park

News Update 6 September 2018

With its tall pine and eucalyptus trees, the City's Collier Park Golf Course in Como is one of the largest roosting sites in the Perth metropolitan area for Carnaby's Black Cockatoos.

The City has been active in establishing and maintaining the sanctuary areas at the golf course to provide enhanced habitat. For a number of years the City has secured funds from Perth Natural Resource Management and Birds Australia for revegetation projects at the course.

The projects have involved extensive weed control, planting of native plant stock and pine trees, direct seeding, and smoke water application to the ground to encourage seed bank germination.

As a result, more than 40 sanctuary sites have been established and maintained to provide food sources and roosting spaces for these precious Black Cockatoos.
