Changes to parking arrangements

Journalist's enquiry:  The following questions were received from the Southern Gazette in relation to changes to City of South Perth parking arrangements:

  1. What was resolved at the City of South Perth’s August Council meeting in relation to parking restrictions on York, Clarence, Hopetoun, Stirling and Scott Streets.

  2. When did parking signs get installed?

  3.  Were affected residents notified that changes would occur?  If so, when were notices sent?

  4. Have other works relating to parking been pursued on these roads?

  5. Does the City have a policy in place that determines a minimum timeframe of notice to be given before parking zones / rules are amended / installed?

Please attribute the following statements to City of South Perth Mayor, Sue Doherty

A number of new measures were recently implemented to manage parking in line with the City’s Parking Strategy and Parking Management Action Plan for South Perth Station Precinct and surrounding areas. This aims to address both current and future demand for on street parking.

  1. What was resolved at the City of South Perth’s August council meeting in relation to parking restrictions on York, Clarence, Hopetoun, Stirling and Scott Streets.
    Council resolved at its August Council meeting to amend the parking restrictions applied to York, Clarence, Hopetoun, Stirling and Scott Streets.

    Parking restrictions on these streets will all be amended to 4P Monday to Friday, 8am – 6pm.  The City is currently amending the relevant signage and anticipates this will be completed by close of business Friday 31 August 2018.

  2. When did parking signs get installed?
    Signage was installed early to mid August 2018.

  3. Were affected residents notified that changes would occur?  If so, when were notices sent?
    Yes, letters were sent out from 30 July 2018 to affected residents and businesses. 

  4. Have other works relating to parking been pursued on these roads?
    In conjunction with new parking restrictions, new no standing line-marking and dedicated parking bays will also be implemented once weather permits.

  5. Does the City have a policy in place that determines a minimum timeframe of notice to be given before parking zones / rules are amended / installed?
    The City will be reviewing its current practices in relation to the provision of notifications.

Drivers and residents are encouraged to carefully read parking signs.
