Christmas Carols

Media Response 17 August 2018

Journalist’s enquiry: Two questions from the Southern Gazette relating to the City’s Christmas carols event:

  1. Does the City run a Christmas carol event, as part of its arts and events calendar
  2. Given the cancellation of the Christmas carols event in Burswood Park, would the City consider running a (larger) community carols event to accommodate the loss?

Please attribute the following quotes to City of South Perth Mayor, Sue Doherty.

The annual Christmas Carols event held in McDougall Park, Como, is organised by the Lions Club of South Perth.

The City of South Perth has been a longstanding sponsor and supporter of this popular community event, which raises money through gold coin donations to support the ongoing charitiable and community services of the Lions Club of South Perth.

This year, the City of South Perth plans to meet with the Lions Club of South Perth and discuss their plans for the 2018 event.  The cancellation of the Burswood Christmas Carols will be discussed at this time.

In addition to supporting longstanding community events such as the annual Christmas carols, the City of South Perth also delivers a vibrant Arts, Events Culture program from November – April each year.  The most recent calendar featured 48 events, attracting more than 170,000 people from within the City and beyond.

Easy accessibility to the City of South Perth along with more than 660 hectares of parks, river frontage and public open space makes the City an attractive, family friendly place to visit.
