Brushes take on new life at Perth Zoo

News Update 17 July 2018

Perth Zoo’s Asian Elephants, Tricia, Permai and Putra Mas have been enjoying the street sweeper brushes donated by the City in a variety of ways.

Their keepers adjusted and placed the brushes in their exhibits as an enrichment item, allowing the elephants to demonstrate behaviours they would exhibit in the wild.

Pictured below is Permai stretching out her trunk to explore the bristled item in front of her, but the keepers have also observed her and the other elephants rubbing against the brushes for a really good back scratch!
