Ernest Johnson Reserve demolition of buildings
Journalist’s background: I have some members of the public come to me with some concerns about Stage Two of the EJ Reserve Update.
Please attribute the following the quotes to City of South Perth Mayor Sue Doherty.
Has an exact date been set for the demolition of the public toilets / other surrounding buildings (a press release said it is expected before Feb 22 – is this still on track?)
Council has approved the Stage 2 upgrade of the Ernest Johnson Reserve Masterplan, which includes demolition of the old facilities including the public toilets. The project is on track to be completed as per the works program.
Are the Playgroup/Guide hall or Clubroom toilets accessible to public users of the reserve? If not, what facilities are accessible to public visitors not using the above areas?
An Exeloo automatic toilet has been constructed for public access when the buildings are not in use.
Is the City aware a report has been made to the Heritage Council regarding the ‘old’ toilet block? If so, has the City received any communications that would potentially impact a demolition date?
The City understands that the Ernest Johnson Reserve toilet block has been nominated by a resident to the Heritage Council and is currently awaiting communication from the Heritage Council.
