Parking infringements on driveway crossovers

Media Response 7 April 2017

Journalist’s background: I’m after some information relating to parking enforcement. Specifically, I’d like to know:
1. What is your council’s local law for cars parked past the letterbox on a driveway crossover strip, between the property boundary and the road? (I’ve included a photo below to give an example of what I’m referring to. In this instance, the car’s owner was allegedly fined $100 for being illegally parked.)
2. What action, if any, does your council take against vehicles parked in this way?
3. If a fine is given, what is the value of the fine?
4. How many of these fines did your council issue between March 1 2016 and March 1 2017?

Please attribute the following quotes to City of South Perth Mayor Sue Doherty.

What is your council’s local law for cars parked past the letterbox on a driveway crossover strip, between the property boundary and the road? (I’ve included a photo below to give an example of what I’m referring to. In this instance, the car’s owner was allegedly fined $100 for being illegally parked.)
Under the City’s Parking Local Laws, it may fall under various offences depending on the circumstances. For example, if the vehicle is in a ‘No Stopping’ or ‘No Parking’ area and it is signposted Road or Verge, then it is an offence to park within this area which includes the crossover.

What action, if any, does your council take against vehicles parked in this way?
The City’s rangers will attend and if possible may speak with the owner of the vehicle and ask them to move it. If this is not possible, the rangers will issue a notice to the vehicle, either a caution or infringement depending on the circumstances.

If a fine is given, what is the value of the fine?
If the offence is in a ‘No Parking’ area the fine is $80, if the offence is in a ‘No Stopping’ area the fine is $100.

How many of these fines did your council issue between March 1 2016 and March 1 2017?
Unfortunately we cannot provide this information, as we cannot break down the statistics for Road or Verge offences under the ‘No Stopping’ and ‘No Parking’ clauses.
However, the total number of ‘No Stopping’ and ‘No Parking’ infringements issued between March 1 2016 and March 1 2017 are listed below. These figures include Road and Verge offences.

No Stopping: 729
No Parking: 100
