Remembering Manning Library

For more than half a century Manning Library has served the community and been a beacon for learning and education. Officially opened to the public in December 1964 by Sir Walter Murdoch and Mayor Thomas, the site on the corner of Goss Ave in Manning was donated to the City by the State Housing Commission. The architect designed building cost £18,000 to construct and the facility was initially run by a staff of just five employees.

The library has grown and changed significantly throughout its life to suit the needs of the community. Its relocation to the new multi-million dollar Manning Community Centre, which will also include a community hall, Manning Child Health Clinic, Moorditj Keila Aboriginal Group, a sporting clubroom and an early years’ centre, will mark yet another exciting chapter in its evolution. Sustainable, modern and multipurpose spaces will house state-of-the-art facilities and services for the entire community to use. The Manning Community Centre and Manning Library will be open to the public from February 2017.
