Fiesta Preparations Underway

Mayor's Diary 19 February 2016
Well its that time of the year when the preparations are underway for our 22nd Fiesta.   Very excited to know that the the first attraction, ‘Ascending Signals’ lit up on Thursday 18 February.  What is it ‘Ascending Signals’? Imagine this - a fascinating pyramid-like artwork series that references nautical navigation themes in it’s design, as well as traditional and more recent land uses in the area – paying homage to the Noongar resistance fighters and the land-cultivating practice by the Chinese market gardeners.  It will be illuminated every Thursday to Sunday from 6.45pm – 9.45pm on the South Perth Foreshore until 6 March. Remember to take a picture when you visit and enter our Instagram photo competition.

The South Perth StrEats are proving to be hugely popular, with plenty of locals and visitors taking advantage of the beautiful warm evenings to have dinner outdoors from one of the food trucks.  They’re located at Sir James Mitchell Park in South Perth and at the George Burnett Leisure Centre in Karawara. For daily updates on which trucks will be visiting as well as times and locations, check the South Perth StrEats Facebook page.

I’m really pleased to report that the Manning Community Hub is progressing well.  This is a significant community project, that includes relocating a number of community and social activity sites into a state-of-the-art new space.  Work started in July last year, and the time-lapse video shows just how far the project has come in a little over 6 months.
