Program ideas invited to address local food insecurity
- Do you have a great idea to support local people in need?
- Are you passionate about improving food security in the City of South Perth?
If so, we want to hear from you!
Addressing food insecurity requires a collaborative effort involving governments, the business sector, community organisations, and residents.
The City is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from groups or organisations to deliver a Food Insecurity Prevention Program during 2025/26. All ideas are welcome and could include hamper programs, food/grocery assistance, mobile food services or other similar programs.
Food security (having reliable access to affordable and nutritious food) is a basic human need and an important social determinant of health. Yet, according to 2024 data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 41 per cent of Australian households experienced food insecurity due to a lack of money for food in the past year.
Food insecurity can affect those facing temporary or ongoing social and economic disadvantage and can lead to serious health conditions, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease and mental health challenges.
At the local level, the City aims to optimise accessibility and inclusiveness for all to make our community more liveable. The City’s Access and Inclusion Plan include a range of actions to achieve this outcome, with one of the actions focussed on supporting disadvantaged people through emergency food relief.
If you have a solution that can make a difference in the community, submit your EOI by 12 September 2025.
