City responds to South Perth Foreshore hooning concerns
The City of South Perth will implement further measures to address hooning and antisocial behaviour at the South Perth Foreshore following ongoing concerns from residents about community safety.
At its Ordinary Council Meeting on 16 December, Council endorsed a motion brought forward by Councillor Tim Houweling to fund additional on-the-ground measures and investigate longer-term solutions.
Up to $60,000 in unspent 2025/26 budget funds will be reallocated to support increased ranger and environmental health patrols, install infrastructure to deter illegal parking at the western end of the South Perth Peninsula, and introduce “no stopping” signage along South Perth Esplanade.
As part of the motion, the City will review further solutions including traffic calming measures, waste management, landscaping, CCTV and parking controls as part of the 2026/27 budget process. The City will also approach the State Government for increased support from WA Police to address anti-social behaviour in the area.
Since 2021, the City has implemented a range of measures to address concerns, including installing raised platforms along Mill Point Road to deter speeding, acquiring a mobile CCTV camera trailer, closing the Millers Pool car park from 10pm to 5am, and introducing 40km/hr speed limits at the northern end of the South Perth Peninsula. An additional mobile CCTV camera is scheduled to be deployed in early to mid-2026.
