Road rehabilitation works
Every year the City identifies roads within our community that are in need of rehabilitation, including repairs to the road surface and surrounding infrastructure, in order to prevent any further deterioration and avoid costly repairs in the future.
The road works can include:
- Road resurfacing (with asphalt)
- Kerb replacement
- Drainage structure upgrades
- Minor footpath upgrades.

Pennington Street cul-de-sac upgrade
After consultation with surrounding residents, the City will construct a half turnaround cul-de-sac on Pennington Street in Kensington. Works are planned to start on 24 October 2022.

A series of mini roundabouts will be built by the City along Axford Street, Como throughout June to help improve road safety.
Redmond Stairs project underway
Replacement of the Redmond Stairs in Salter Point has begun to provide the community with safer access to this section of a much-loved riverside walk trail.
Traffic Warden Controlled Children’s Crossing - Abjornson St and Gillon St, Manning
The City will be installing a new Traffic Warden Controlled Children’s Crossing at the corner of Abjornson Street and Gillon Street, Manning. Scheduled to commence on 5 April 2022 the works will take approximately 3-4 weeks to complete.
Redmond Stairs update
The upgrade to the stairs at Redmond Reserve in Salter Point has encountered some delays. We are anticipating works will be complete by the end of May 2022.
Cycle path crossings create a safer journey
Cyclists are enjoying an easier ride along the South Perth Foreshore after the City installed raised priority crossings at three busy intersections.
Canning Bridge to Curtin Bike Link
The City is seeking feedback on a proposed bike link that will create a safer route between Canning Bridge and Curtin University.
Resurfacing works - Canning Highway, South Perth
Main Roads WA will be conducting resurfacing works on Canning Highway between Berwick Street and South Terrace, South Perth between Tuesday 15 March to Thursday 31 March 2022.
South Perth Foreshore cycle path upgrades
Crossings have been constructed where the bike path intersects with the road at Coode Street, Douglas Avenue and Witcomb Place on South Perth Foreshore.
Foreshore cycle path upgrades
An upgrade to the shared path between Queen Street and Millers Pool is now complete and the path is back open.
Parking changes on Darley and Ray Streets
There will be changes to parking on Darley Street and Ray Street from Friday 10 December for line marking works.
South Perth Foreshore shared path upgrade
The City will be upgrading the South Perth Esplanade cycle path from the intersection of Queen Street and South Perth Esplanade to the intersection of Mill Point Close and Mill Point Road.
Redmond Stairs to be replaced
A new raised stairway will soon be constructed at Redmond Reserve in Salter Point to improve safety and access to the riverside nature space.
Improving our cycle paths
This year the City will focus on key cycling infrastructure projects on the South Perth Foreshore between Millers Pool and Mindeerup, along sections of the Canning Bridge to Curtin link and Waterford shoreline connection.
Drainage works - South Perth
Commencing week of 28 June 2021 drainage works will be undertaken on Salisbury Avenue between Canning Highway and Broome Street, South Perth.
Garvey Street Park upgrades
The City is upgrading Garvey Street Park in Waterford and constructing a new access laneway through the park between Garvey Street and Conlon Street.
Canning Highway on-ramp closure
Main Roads WA have advised Kwinana Freeway's northbound on-ramp from Canning Highway will be closed from 8pm to 5am on Tuesday 27 April and Wednesday 28 April 2021.
