Exciting changes coming to Moresby Street

Work has begun on upgrading the Moresby Street precinct in Kensington, creating a more welcoming and vibrant space for the local community.

Recent underground power works in the area and wheel stops installed in the on-street parking bays have paved the way for the improvements to begin, which will include more alfresco dining space, new bench seating and shade trees outside the Moresby Street shops.

The shade trees - two mature eucalyptus trees and six pincushion hakea shrubs - will be planted in structural soil cells, an innovation which provides space for healthy root growth while helping protect nearby paving. They will also be fitted with protective grates around their bases.

A new paved area and additional seating will also be installed outside Moresby Street Hall.

The project builds on community and stakeholder feedback gathered in June 2025, which helped to finalise the design for minor upgrades. The improvements aim to activate the local centre, including Moresby Street Hall and Moresby Reserve, and respect the heritage of the historic shopfronts.

Once completed, the Moresby Street upgrades will complement the existing uplighting of the lemon scented gum at Moresby Reserve and the recently installed public artworks: the Friends in the Bushland mural by George Rose and Sioux Tempest’s Interlace footpath artwork, delivered as part of the No More Blank Walls festival in April.

Works are expected to take two to three weeks, weather permitting. Visitors are encouraged to follow temporary traffic management measures, including roadwork barriers and detours, while works are underway. Businesses are operating as usual.
