Stormwater litter trap maintenance rescheduled - Kwinana Freeway (Manning Road to Narrows Bridge)

News Update 23 February 2026

The City previously advised that annal drainage maintenance night works on the northbound lane of the Kwinana Freeway, between Manning Road and the Narrows Bridge, would commence on Saturday 15 February 2026. Due to circumstances beyond the City’s control, these works have been rescheduled.

The works will now commence Sunday 8 March 2026 and form part of the City and Main Roads Western Australia drainage maintenance program.

Annual cleaning of stormwater litter traps (gross pollutant traps) will be undertaken along the northbound lane of the Kwinana Freeway between Manning Road, Como and the Narrows Bridge, South Perth. These traps collect rubbish and debris from stormwater before it reaches the Swan River.

Details of the works

Location: Northbound lane of the Kwinana Freeway from Manning Road, Como to the Narrows Bridge, South Perth (see map below)

Date: Commencing Sunday 8 March 2026

Duration: Approximately two weeks, weather permitting. Works will generally occur Sunday to Thursday between 7pm and 5am. Please note works may not occur every night during this period.

To minimise disruption to high-volume daytime traffic on the Freeway and pedestrian traffic on the principal shared path, works will be undertaken at night.

The northbound on-ramp from Canning Highway to the Kwinana Freeway may be closed for up to two nights to accommodate the works. Motorists are advised to follow any detour or other posted signage and drive carefully in the area.

Equipment and vehicle movements may generate noise for nearby residents. An after-hours Noise Management Plan has been prepared and approved by the City to minimise disruption.

The works will involve hydro-excavation to clean gross pollutant traps along the river foreshore.

Residents adjacent to the gross pollutant traps will be notified by letter, and further information will be available on the City’s website
