Annual cleaning of gross pollutant traps - Kwinana Freeway (Manning Road to Narrows Bridge)
Drainage maintenance night works will soon commence on the northbound lane of Kwinana Freeway, between Manning Road and Narrows Bridge, as part of the City and Main Roads WA drainage maintenance program. The City coordinates and undertakes these works annually in accordance with Main Roads WA guidelines.
The City will be undertaking night works as follows:
Location: Northbound lane of the Kwinana Freeway from Manning Road, Como to the Narrows Bridge, South Perth (see map below)
Date: Commencing Sunday 15 February 2026
Duration: Approximately two weeks, weather permitting, Sunday to Thursday 7:00pm to 5:00am. These works are scheduled at night to avoid major disruption to high-volume daytime traffic on the Freeway and pedestrian traffic on the principal shared path. Please note works may not occur every night during this period.
The northbound on-ramp from Canning Highway to the Kwinana Freeway may be closed for up to two nights to accommodate the works. For the safety of both road users and maintenance personnel, residents will be advised to follow any detour or other posted signage and drive carefully in the area.
Equipment and vehicle movements may generate noise for nearby residents. To minimise disruption, an after-hours Noise Management Plan has been prepared and approved by the City of South Perth.
The night works will involve:
- Hydro-excavation to clean gross pollutant traps along the Swan River.
The City makes every effort to reduce the disruption caused by these night works. Residents adjacent to the gross pollutant traps will be notified by letter, and information will be available on the City’s website.
