The City of South Perth and Workpower launch Reuse Shop
Good quality, pre-loved items will be given a second life with the opening of a new Reuse Shop at the City of South Perth’s Recycling Centre in Como on 20 August 2025.
Operated by Workpower, a leading West Australian disability service provider and social enterprise contracted by the City, the store is part of a broader push towards sustainability and recycling.
The Reuse Shop supports the State Government’s shift towards a circular economy and complements a Containers for Change Drop & Go station operated by Good Sammy at the same location, and the City’s new Verge Valet™ collection service.
Pre-loved items donated by community members will be prepared for sale by Workpower staff, creating employment opportunities for people living with disability.
From furniture and homewares to sporting equipment and collectables, there will be plenty for the City’s thrifty shoppers and treasure hunters to discover.
Mayor Greg Milner said the Reuse Shop offered a sustainable solution for the community by giving a second life to items that might otherwise be discarded, and reflected the City’s commitment to smarter, more sustainable waste management.
“It’s an important step towards reducing the environmental impact of waste while promoting a circular economy,” he said.
“By supporting this initiative, residents are not only helping to protect the environment but also contributing to a community where everyone can benefit; from people living with disabilities gaining meaningful employment to shoppers finding affordable, quality goods,” he added.
Through the partnership with Workpower, revenue generated by the shop will be reinvested into creating jobs, providing training and offering vital support for people living with disability to build skills and gain confidence.
Workpower CEO Lee Broomhall said the organisation was incredibly excited to open its fifth Reuse Shop in Como.
“Our reuse shops provide a hub of opportunity for people with disability. It’s where our employees can develop valuable retail skills in a supportive environment, and where the community can take simple, meaningful action – supporting inclusive employment, reducing waste, and contributing to a more sustainable future,” she said.
