The City of South Perth is thrilled to announce the opening of the highly anticipated Manning Bike Track at George Burnett Park in Karawara.

Designed by Three Chillies Design following extensive community engagement, the Manning Bike Track is ready for riders of all ages and skill levels, offering a pump track for bikes, skateboards, scooters and wheelchairs, and a jump track for more experienced riders to practice advanced moves.

City of South Perth Mayor Greg Milner said the new bike track will provide more opportunities for the community to stay active and enjoy the outdoors.

“The Manning Bike Track is an exciting addition to George Burnett Park and reflects our commitment to creating vibrant recreational spaces for our community,” he said.

“We look forward to seeing everyone enjoying this fantastic facility.”

In 2023, the City secured a $300,000 grant from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program to help create the bike track. This was followed by an additional $100,000 grant from Lotterywest in 2024, which contributed to the landscaped gardens, seating, pathways, lighting and shade structures around the track. The total cost of the project was $600,000.

“We’re grateful for the support from the Federal Government and Lotterywest, which has made it possible for us to create an enjoyable and accessible experience for everyone that visits Manning Bike Track,” said Mayor Greg Milner.

Lotterywest CEO Colin Smith said the opening of Manning Bike Track provides a fun and inclusive facility for the Western Australian community to benefit from.

“George Burnett Park is a major hub, and improving the park’s facilities means more people can come together to enjoy the outdoors and maybe even try a new activity,” Mr Smith said.

“Lotterywest is proud to provide the City of South Perth with this grant which has enhanced the open space surrounding the track with seating, shade structures and additional trees.”

The Manning Bike Track is part of a broader revitalisation project for George Burnett Park, which includes the new Canning Bridge to Curtin University Bike Link and the recently opened Dome Café at the site of the old Manning Library.

“The City has put in tremendous effort to transform the George Burnett Park precinct, creating a vibrant hub that fosters community and supports physical and mental wellbeing,” said Mayor Greg Milner.

“We’re excited to see everyone making the most of this dynamic new space."
