Home reader service 

Our Home Reader Service delivers books and other library items to temporarily or permanently housebound residents. We are looking for permanent and relief volunteers to deliver library items to our community on Wednesday and Friday mornings.

Library shelvers assist our staff and our customers by returning library items to the shelves from sorting trolleys.

Old Mill guides

Do you want to be involved in keeping one of Western Australia's oldest heritage sites open to the public? Our Old Mill volunteers are scheduled monthly on a Saturday or Sunday from 1-4pm.

Volunteer duties include opening and closing the premises, greeting visitors and answering any questions and recording visitor numbers. No specialised knowledge is required however, volunteers should have good communication skills and be able to talk to a wide range of people. Volunteers should be 18 years or over.

Get Job Ready

Our Get Job Ready Volunteers will support individuals and small groups to create resumes, apply for jobs and to design online professional profiles. An ability to use a wide range of digital resources, good written communication skills and a willingness to help program participants in their employment journey is essential for Get Job ready Volunteers.

Time for Play

Do you enjoy working with children and families? Our Time for Play Volunteers provide support to local families who join us each week during School term time for our Time for Play sessions. Volunteers will assist our library staff to set up and pack down play resources. Previous experience working with children would be a great advantage. A Working With Children Check is essential for all Volunteers working in this role.

English as a Second Language

The English as a Second Language (ESL) conversation groups provide a safe space for members of the community to practice English in an informal setting. As the leader of the conversation group, volunteers will develop and maintain professional relationships with interested participants seeking to practice and improve their English reading, writing, listening and speaking skills to support a diverse, connected and engaged community. 

ESL volunteers will be required to: 

Assist the Libraries in the delivery of the English Conversation Group

Plan and guide conversation topics during group sessions

Provide participants with feedback on their progress

Encourage positive group conversation and networking possibilities.

Our ESL conversation groups run on Wednesday and Saturdays at Manning Library and Friday at South Perth Library.
