It’s in the bag – share the dignity
City of South Perth residents can help out those in need this October by donating a bag filled with essential hygiene products for those who are struggling to get by. From 1 – 31 October both Manning and South Perth libraries are accepting It’s in the Bag donations, which can be delivered in either a new or pre-loved bag.
The campaign follows the launch of a new community pantry at South Perth library in August and our successful contribution to Foodbank WA’s Community Food Drive, during which South Perth residents donated 120kgs of food to the organisation.
The Share the Dignity drive aims to lighten the load for those living in crisis by providing a combination of life’s essentials and a selection of optional additional items to make daily living easier.
Bags should include essentials like shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, body wash or soap and any type of unopened period products.
Residents can also add optional luxury items like a hairbrush, lipgloss, face wipes, make up or gift vouchers, or create a bag specifically for a teen or a mother and baby. Bags can also include a handwritten note or card.
Teen or Mum & Bub bags must be tagged with a ribbon or a downloadable tag from the Share the Dignity website. Teen bags should have a yellow tag/ribbon, and Mum & Bub bags a purple tag/ribbon.
All items in the bag must be new and in their original packaging. Share the Dignity can not accept food or drink, pharmaceutical items or anything sharp (excluding sewing or manicure kits).
Supporting the It’s in the Bag drive is part of the City’s ongoing programs to support different communities, including those under financial pressure. We partner with local charities and organisations to run a range of donation initiatives to help those in need and foster connection, inclusion, and wellbeing in our community.
Each bag will be sorted and transported to a network of organisations working with women and girls dealing with poverty and homelessness. Share the Dignity has further information about the drive and the items needed.
The drive runs from 1 – 31 October.
