The key to inclusion

News Update 3 November 2026

South Perth and Manning libraries are keying into increased inclusion. Both libraries have been fitted out with large print keyboards for all their public computer stations, making them more accessible for those with vision impairments.

This type of large print keyboard has enlarged high contrast characters, which reduce eye strain and are much easier to see, putting accessibility front and centre.

South Perth Library has also been equipped with an accessibility computer station that comes with a backlit keyboard, track ball, mouse and larger cursor, and magnified screen options.

These modifications allow the user’s hands to sit in a more natural position, reducing wrist and finger movements and making them more comfortable for those with reduced dexterity, arthritis or other physical or sensory needs.

With services like government, education, employment and health, increasingly moving online, having computer access is important. The City of South Perth is committed to making sure the entire community can get online in a way that feels easy and convenient. Our Click Digital Learning programsprovide face-to-face and online workshops to help the community become more digital literate.

Funding for these items comes from the State Library of Western Australia, which is committed to boosting accessibility and opening up libraries for everyone.
